Introducing...the Palatometer!
*picture compliments of Complete Speech
The palatometer is a device that helps clients see their tongue placement on the palate when producing different speech sounds. A "smart palate" is put into the clients mouth and is attached to "data link" which is then connected to the computer. (See picture above). When connected, the palatometer software produces real-time visual feedback to allow the client to monitor where their tongue is placed on the palate for certain sounds. We (speech-language pathologists) are also wearing a palatometer connected to the computer. This allows the client to see where the tongue placement should be in order to produce sounds correctly.
This technology is evidenced-based and in many cases can resolve certain speech disorders in a matter of weeks (not years!)
Please see our link for Complete Speech on the right for more information.
